Conventional extensions & hybrid extensions

If you are considering an extension to your home we can help.

We offer conventional extensions with solid walls & tiled or flat roofs. These buildings satisfy the building regulations requirements for thermal efficiency without the need for a SAP calculation due to the glazing area being within the standard limits set by building control.

We also construct hybrid extensions. These buildings have more glass area than the standard building regulations rules allow & therefore require a SAP calculation to demonstrate that they meet the required level of energy efficiency to comply with the current stringent building regulations. Unlike a conservatory, a hybrid extension is not required to have a door separating it from the host building & is classed as an extension. These buildings come under full building regulations

We can provide a complete service including planning & building regulations compliance where required or we can work from your plans. We also carry out electrical installations to Part P approval & arrange ancillary trades such as tiling, plastering, plumbing etc.

We use the latest 3d CAD & photo montage software for single storey extensions & hybrid extensions so the client can see the building in situ on the property before it is built. This helps clients make the right design decisions at the conception stage. -

The software is so advanced we can also show different types of flooring, internal wall finishes, window cill, roof glazing & all colour finish options on the conservatory structure. We can even show a path surrounding the conservatory in different slab options!

We offer free on site design consultation & quotation service. Please click here to contact us by e-mail or call us on 01273 741183

We also offer advice on whether a planning application will be required & offer our own in-house planning applications service free of charge to our customers. This means that if we can’t obtain permission for your extension you don’t pay for expensive architect fees for something you can’t have built. As we work in Lewes & surrounding areas we are well versed in local planning policies & have an extremely good success rate with planning applications.

The other benefit of the design & build route is that you have a quote for the building from start to finish at the outset. This ensures you don’t waste money having plans drawn for a building that doesn’t fit with your budget.

At Lewes Home Improvements we pride ourselves on a straightforward & practical approach. As we offer all options on extending peoples homes we are well placed to advise on the merits & likely costs of different forms of extension & different methods of building. For instance if space is limited, a timber studwork construction may be more appropriate as the finished wall thickness can be 40% thinner than conventional brickwork & blockwork giving you more internal space.

Timber studwork construction 160mm thick wall resulting in extra 10% floor area on this recent project. Click here for more info on this recently completed extension.

Sometimes to achieve the extra space you need it may be more cost effective to convert an existing building such as a garage or a cellar into a habitable living space. We can advise on the likely costs of conversion vs. new build to help you make an informed decision.
